Strong British team led by Chris Bonington included Doug Scott and Dougal Haston in the autumn of 1972. Cutting manpower and equipment to a minimum, their attempt on this unclimbed route demonstrated advances in lightweight tactics over siege expeditions. Although they didn’t make the summit, it was considered a triumph in technique and spirit.
